Bartering is common in markets and most small shops, but all department stores, supermarkets and western style shops operate on a fixed price basis.
TRAFFIC SYSTEM
The vehicle is driving on the right side of the road. International driver’s license holders are permitted to drive in the UAE as long as they are over 21 years of age. Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited, that is, consumption is ensured, even the day after.
TAXIS
All taxis are metered and operate at a fixed rate. The taxi sign is clearly visible on the roof of the car.
TIPPING
Normally 10% is considered the correct amount, but is not obligatory.
CLOTHING
People in the UAE dress conservatively in public. Swimwear is only accepted at the beach or pool. Shorts and a T-shirt are common, but when visiting mosques, places of worship, or older parts of cities, loose clothing that covers the shoulders, arms, and legs is considered more appropriate.
DAY TIME DRESS CODE
Casual clothes and comfortable shoes are essential for traveling. In accordance with local custom, we encourage you to dress modestly at all times.
EVENING TIME DRESS CODE
In order not to offend the surrounding community, you should avoid cleavage, hot pants, tank tops, and tight or thin fabrics.
MOSQUE DRESS CODE
Smart or smart -casual is essential, with no no ripped jeans, flip flops, trainers/sneakers, or shorts. Women must wear the headscarf. Please note the dress code of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for men and women.
